Forbes published their 30 Under 30 list for 2022 in January. This list of the year’s top performers includes 600 people who have been the top performers in their respective fields. It includes famous people from fashion, entertainment and music. The list also includes people who aren’t well-known in science, retail as well as healthcare and other fields. The Arts & Style section highlights Mitch Purgason (29), an iconic Charlotte designer who has dressed celebrities like Josh Gordon, Mark Cuban and Bubba Wallace. We learn the reasons “Stitched by Mitch” founder was extremely successful with unique pieces that could cost up to $25,000
Purgason’s road to fame was built on hard work, dedication, and a meticulous focus on particulars. Purgason was born in Greensboro and attended Appalachian State University. He founded his company for clothing as a project. The class he took on entrepreneurship required him to create a company, which he began together with two students in the business field. He wanted to make affordable and custom-made clothing for students at college. Purgason began Stitched by Mitch after taking design classes, studying fabrics and learning from a professional tailor.
The famed clients of Purgason can be attributed to his sports connections. He was a junior at App State and was able to make it to the basketball team. He was able to meet some former App State players who went on into the NFL. Although he didn’t get his first NFL client until after 2019 Word-of-mouth marketing has proven to be an excellent source of income for his business.
His suits are often distinctive Milanese buttons, various textures, and his signature symbol, “unarazza diversa,” an Italian phrase that literally means “cut from another fabric.” In an interview with Business North Carolina, Purgason describes having deep conversations with his clients to customize their customized pieces.
“I would like to know everything I can about the client. I ask questions to help me discern their personality, their relationship with color and what they are trying to convey when they wear clothing,” said Purgason.
His particular brand of work allows him to make extravagant pieces. He recently created a teal leather bomber jacket for Cassi Smith who is the wife of Speedway Motorsports President and CEO Marcus Smith, to complement her teal G-Wagon.
Mitch Purgason is famous for his suit designs, but he doesn’t want to be referred to as the “suit man.” Purgason has expanded his line to include golf attire, shirts and golf wear and also leather jackets, and leather jackets. Mitch Purgason is currently in luxury fashion management and will finish next year by completing a tailoring course in Italy. Purgason is also working on the show with a high-profile celebrity who is not named.
Purgason stated, “I’m always striving to improve.” Purgason also stated that you should be open to learning and experiencing an item that you can be happy with.
